On-Demand Class · Parent Wellness

Globally, 1 in 7 children aged 10-19 years-old experience a mental disorder (according to WHO 2021). We need to start talking about wellbeing from an early age. This series will help you introduce the topic of wellbeing into your family life.

Class Description

Times of poor mental health effect so many of us as adults, and globally 1 in 7 children aged 10-19 years-old experience a mental disorder (according to the World Health Organisation 2021). However, far too few of us were introduced to the concept of mental health and wellbeing as children, with many young people only being introduced to the topic when they are experiencing poor mental health. This must be a very scary experience and one that can be avoided with the right awareness-building early in life. This series aims to help you start the conversation about feelings with your children from the very beginning - giving you ideas of simple actions and habits you can start in your home to normalise talking about feelings and promoting positive mental health. The lessons learnt will not mean your children will never experience times of mental distress; however, hopefully you can create a space where they feel confident to talk to you about how they feel, giving you the opportunity to offer and find further support if needed. I am passionate to help break down stigma associated with mental health and this needs to start early. This short series is broken in to bite-sized chunks to fit in with your busy lives as parents and carers. I will talk you through the following themes. - Learn how to introduce the topic of feelings from an early age - Discuss the connections between mental health, confidence & self-esteem - with ideas for promoting confidence in our children - Suggestions for positive habits to introduce into your family life to promote wellbeing and create a safe space to talk about feelings - Guidance for how to find local mental health support for yourself or children if needed
