Resilient Parenting

On-Demand Class · Parenting

Want to break free from reactive parenting? This workshop offers simple tools (all included) that start with YOUR emotional well-being, so you can model for your kids. The impact is amazing, for you, your children, and your relationship.

Class Description

Join Lee, Founder of Kind Mind, for an introduction to Kind Mind's compassionate approach to caregiving. Many of us did not have emotional learning or nurturing growing up, so we are conditioned to repeat harmful parenting patterns without even realizing it. We want it to feel different, but we don't always have the know-how. Forget the parenting scripts, we want to help you identify your own triggers and parenting patterns that don't feel authentic to you, and help break those patterns. As a result, you can be the parent YOU WANT to be. After all, your children want to be connected to you, not some parenting approach that is someone else's. This authentic connection and safe relationship alone will help your child feel resilient! In this workshop, Lee will guide you through 4 SIMPLE principles that promote a deeper sense of awareness, compassion, and resilience for yourself and the children you care for. We believe that learning starts with the caregiver. After all, when we feel healthy and connected, that will automatically translate to our kids. All of the materials to support this work are provided as digital downloads in this course. This workshop is broken apart into 6 modules, ranging from 10-20 minutes each, so you can slowly integrate each lesson as it feels right for you. Six Modules: Introduction - Lee's story of resilience and parenting and why this program works for all families. Mindfulness - What, why, and how to introduce mindfulness to your children, and why a SIMPLE practice can change everything. Rhythm & Connection - Learn about the importance of rhythm and connection, and how to work these principles into any family routine. Learn to find a little more balance and why rest and boredom nurture a deeper connection. Compassion - Learn how to feel less reactive with your child's tantrums and struggles, by meeting them with more compassion, and how this approach models for them how to show compassion to others. Breathwork - Engage in simple breathwork practice and learn the importance of this simple, daily practice that helps to manage stress, anxiety, and promotes a healthy nervous system (which we all need!). Close - Recap of key points and takeaways. After this workshop, you will have a deeper understanding and new perspective on how to approach parenting, with more compassion that feels better for YOU and for your children.

Sessions Overview

  1. Introduction: Kind Mind's Founder, Lee, shares her story of resilience and parenting and how this program came to be. You will hear a brief overview of the workshop and what you can expect on this journey of self care and resilience in parenting.
  2. Mindfulness: Mindfulness builds awareness. In this session, experience a short mindful breathing exercise. Learn how to integrate simple mindfulness practices into your daily routine, how this will support the connection with your children, and how to introduce mindfulness techniques to your children.
  3. Compassion: Compassion is when we recognize difficulties and take action to relieve them, within ourselves and others. When it comes to parenting, emotional tantrums are often met with triggers and reactions. When we can meet our children's big emotions with compassion, everything changes. Learn more!
  4. Rhythm & Connection: Rhythm and connection help foster a sense of security and reduce anxiety. This session will help your family find ways to feel more connected and balanced, even if you have busy schedules. Connection can be simple and finding real connection with your children every day makes a huge difference.
  5. Breathwork: Breathwork helps to balance the nervous system. If you and/or your children feel anxious (who doesn't these days?!), these simple daily practices can help mitigate some of that stress and give your overworked nervous system a break.
  6. Close: Closing remarks and key takeaways. Much gratitude!

Lee Sowles

Lee started this program because she is a true example of someone who has developed resilience, self-compassion, and purpose in her own life. Lee was drawn to work with children as she sees the innate wisdom in each of them and wanted to stay connected to that. Societal expectations and old patterns can interfere with our ability to really see children as equals, listen to them, and learn from what they have to say. Lee learns from children every day and works to remind them (and adults!) of their inherent ability to be present and mindful. Lee’s mindfulness work with children is underscored by the belief that understanding and processing emotions in a healthy way, feeling empowered and focused, and reconnecting with natural qualities of compassion for ourselves and one another, can transform the way we feel. Through these teachings, we can re-wire our brains to promote resilience in times of stress, build a stronger sense of compassion and kindness, and find comfort in being with ourselves. A mother of two young children herself, Lee hopes to touch children, teachers, and caregivers in Maine and contribute to building resilience within communities. Lee fully embodies her yoga, mindfulness, and compassion-based practices, all of which support her need for a well-balanced life.
