Proven Strategies for Parenting Toddlers and Preschoolers

On-Demand Class · Parenting

Overwhelmed by tantrums, defiance, clinginess, and absolute cheekiness? Learn WHY these behaviors occur, and how to parent through them with confidence (and enjoy your children more in the process!).

Class Description

This class has changed thousands of parents' approach to parenting! When you understand the psychology of early childhood - defiance, clinginess, tantrums, picky eating and so much more, you can parent with confidence and enjoy your children more. Based on years of research, Dr. Rees walks you through this learning with humour and practical strategies. Because differences in parenting approaches tend to show up during toddlerhood and the preschool years, it helps if both parents can take this class together.

Sessions Overview

  1. Introduction - Act Your Age: Welcome to the section titled Act Your Age. Children are supposed to be immature and there is so much that their brains simply can't process. Their non-vebal skills make it hard to get organized and follow instructions. It isn't your parenting!
  2. Children and Lying (untruths): All children go through periods of telling stories and lying. In this class, we teach you how to deal with this. It applies to older children as well and will help you divert future issues.
  3. Children's Fears and Embarrassing Behaviors: Young children have irrational fears of monsters but eventually, they have real fears as they hear about all the things that happen in the world out there. What to do.
  4. Focus, Food and Frustrations: Imagine if your child cared about the dust on your coffe table. That would be a problem. Children make messes and can't clean them up and what about mealtime?
  5. Developing Moral Values: It takes all of childhood and then some to develop to a higher level of morals. Too often we hold the bar up way too high for children to reach and worry that they aren't learning respect. Here is what you need to know.
  6. Struggling for Independence: What do you do when children won't do anything you ask them to do? Eat a meal, get in the car seat...what is going on? How do you respond to this defiance?
  7. The Fear of Independence: What do you do when children regress and want you to do things for them that they can do themselves? Why do they seem to need you at night now or cry when you leave them? What's going on?
  8. Egocentric not Selfish: Children do not understand the impact that they have on others. Too often we go into a judmental approach instead of doing what really works; teach empathy by understanding them.
