PART II Help Your Child Discover Pre-Coding Through Play
On-Demand Class · Mommy & me
- Language: English
- Sessions: 8
- Duration: 33 minutes
- Child age: 3 Y - 8 Y
- Price: $11 USD (included with BabySparks Premium)

In this course we'll keep exploring computational thinking through sceen-free activities. We will learn more about Algorithms and discover Loops and Conditional statements.
Class Description
This course is a second part of the course "Skills for today's world: Discover pre-coding through play with your child." You can take it even if you haven't finished the first part. Although it is recommended to sign up for both so you get a more complete framework on computational thinking. In this course we are going to continue with ALGORITHMS and we will learn how to move around the grid using arrows. But before, we will dedicate the whole session to DIRECTIONALITY which is the previous step to be able to use arrows. We will also learn what LOOPS are and through hads-on activities we will see how and where to use LOOPS in both; coding and our everyday life. At last we will speak about CONDITIONAL STATEMENTS that are simple IF/THEN statements. And will prepare a final proyect where we'll put together all the concepts of computational thinking learned in this course (ALGORITHMS, LOOPS and CONDITIONALS).
Class Materials
Depending on the activity, you will need some loose parts or little toys, sheets of paper and construction paper, some art painting supplies, playdough, a die and some sensory base (like rice, corn, chickpeas).
Sessions Overview
- INTRODUCTION: Introduction to the course.
- Introduction to ALGORITHMS: A short introduction to ALGORITHMS and DIRECTIONALITY session.
- DIRECTIONALITY: Understand directionality is the previous step to learn the movements on a grid using arrows. In this session we will learn how to use up and down, left and right arrows.
- ALGORITHM ACTIVITIES: You will see different activities to practice algorithms using arrows.
- SUMMARY ALGORITHMS: A short recap of what have we learned by now.
- LOOPS: Discover and learn how to use LOOPS in coding.
- CONDITIONAL STATEMENTS: Explore CONDITIONALS and learn how to teach this concept to your child trough play.
- FINAL PROYECT: In this final proyect we will write an ALGORITHM step by step using LOOPS and CONDITIONALS
Your Instructor
After working in big consulting and managing production processes in the food-beverage industry, I´m now focused on my passion: educating our children for today's life. I am helping parents to prepare hands-on activities for their children and show them the importance of learning through play from early childhood. That's why I've created PequeCreativity, a space focused on STEM through play, especially computational thinking. All for the little creative and curious minds.
