Skills for today's world: Discover pre-coding through play with your child

On-Demand Class · Mommy & me

In this course we are going to focus on basic concepts of computational thinking through screen-free activities.

Class Description

WHY COMPUTATIONAL THINKING? Computational thinking will teach your child how to analyze a problem and find the best possible solution by breaking it down into small parts, identifying patterns, modeling the problem in a simpler way assembling it all into an efficient solution You´ll learn how computational thinking works and will be able to help your children discover it. In a fun way. Good foundations for skills necessary in their future everyday life. COURSE STRUCTURE: We will teach you key elements of computational thinking: Decomposition Abstraction Pattern recognition Debugging Sequencing Algorithms Each part of course comes with hands-on and easy to set activities that your child will enjoy!

Class Materials

Some little toys, items or loose parts that you already have around your house.

Sessions Overview

  1. INTRODUCTION: Course overview. In this session you will learn what is Computational Thinking and why it is important to introduce our children to problem solving from early years.
  2. DECOMPOSITION: You will learn what DECOMPOSITION is and how can you teach your child this concept through playing. This session includes hands-on, easy to prepare activities. To reproduce them at home, you will need colored paper sheets and scissors.
  3. ABSTRACTION: In this session you will learn what an ABSTRACTION is and will be able to prepare easy activities for your child to teach this concept. You will need some paper sheets, pensil and construction blocks.
  4. PATTERNS: In this session you will learn what are PATTERNS and why pattern recognition is important. To reporoduce all the activities in this session you will need some loose parts or small toys you already have around your house.
  5. DEBUGGING: In this session you will learn about DEBUGGING and how to practice this concept of computational thinking with your child. You will need the same material that we used in previous session (some loose parts or small toys you already have around your house).
  6. SEQUENCES: In this session you will learn about SEQUENCES and ways to practice sequencing through playing.
  7. ALGORITHMS: In this session you will learn what an ALGORITHM is. It includes funny algortihm game you can play with your child as well as introduction to the grid algorithm games.

Milena Soltes

After working in big consulting and managing production processes in the food-beverage industry, I´m now focused on my passion: educating our children for today's life. I am helping parents to prepare hands-on activities for their children and show them the importance of learning through play from early childhood. That's why I've created PequeCreativity, a space focused on STEM through play, especially computational thinking. All for the little creative and curious minds.
