Because babies are on their backs all night, it is essential for parents to ensure they spend time on their stomachs (\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/babysparks.com\/2016\/09\/14\/tummy-time-almost-as-essential-as-milk-to-your-babys-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tummy time<\/a>\u201d) every day (while awake) to help them build the strength required for upcoming milestones, like sitting and crawling.\u00a0 Start with a few minutes at a time and gradually increase the amount of time. You can start immediately, first placing the baby face down on your lap or chest, and moving to the floor soon thereafter.Most of their reactions are driven by <a href=\"https:\/\/babysparks.com\/2016\/05\/10\/what-are-a-babys-primitive-reflexes-and-why-should-i-care\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">primitive reflexes<\/a>, rather than by intentional actions.
