While fine motor skills develop, books will likely be banged around. Board books or books made from cloth or vinyl are durable choices for this busy stage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Body\"><b>Allow your child to choose books. <\/b>Whether you\u2019re at home holding up two book choices for your baby or at a library with your toddler, letting him choose books helps keep him interested and motivated to read.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Body\"><b>Don\u2019t worry about sticking to the story. <\/b>A 2 month-old may listen to an entire book of nursery rhymes, simply because he loves the sound of your voice and doesn\u2019t have the skills to interrupt! It\u2019s normal, though, for older babies and toddlers to butt in, point, comment or ask questions, and turn a few pages at a time. Not only does that count as reading time, it also promotes brain-building <a href=\"https:\/\/babysparks.com\/2017\/06\/04\/serve-return-brain-shaping-back-and-forth-with-your-baby\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">back-and-forth<\/a> between you.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Body\"><b>Don\u2019t worry if reading time is brief. <\/b>If your little one is only interested in reading for a few minutes at a time, that\u2019s okay. With regular reading and stories he enjoys, his attention span will steadily increase.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Body\"><b>Be patient with repeat requests. <\/b>Sometimes reading time is short, and sometimes it\u2019s long. \u201cAgain!\u201d shouts your child after you finish the last page of \u201cPat the Bunny\u201d for the second time. This helps nurture a love of reading and reinforces fine-motor skills.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Default\"><b>What About Electronic Books?<\/b><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"Default\">It can be tempting to prop up a tablet for your baby (or hand one to your toddler) and turn on a reading app. After all, it\u2019s marketed for babies and toddlers and the developer claims it\u2019s educational.
