Class Description
In this course you will learn the in’s and out’s of the Ponseti method, the gold standard of clubfoot treatment from a parent who has experienced it. Most of clubfoot treatment is done at home by the parents during the maintenance (bracing) phase of treatment, and after this course you will understand what your child's clubfoot diagnosis means, what the treatment will entail, and how vital your role as a parent is in the success of the treatment. This course will go over serial casting, tenotomy, boots and bar (BnB), and an overview of resources and support systems available to parents.
Your Instructor
Maureen Hoff is the author Clubfoot Chronicles: Tips for Helping your Clubfoot Cutie During Treatment. She is a mom to three girls, the youngest of whom was born with bilateral clubfoot. Before becoming a mom, she received her Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. After her youngest daughter was diagnosed with clubfoot, she began researching the best treatment options and supportive resources for parents. While her daughter was going through her clubfoot treatment journey, Maureen came to realization that there was a need for more clubfoot resources grounded in the parent experience. Most of the clubfoot treatment is done at home, by the parents, and it became apparent that it is critical for parents to feel confident in their ability to care for their clubfoot children for treatment to be successful. This need was the foundational reason for Maureen writing her book and starting her podcast “A Clubfoot Mom.” Maureen’s immediate goal is to create a comprehensive support system for clubfoot parents that focuses on education and emotional support. Her overall goal is to create supportive resources for all families who have children born with a medical difference. To help better achieve this goal, Maureen became a trained life coach through The Institute of Life Coaching Training in 2021.
